Global Range: (>2,500,000 square km (greater than 1,000,000 square miles)) This species ranges across much of Canada and the eastern U.S. The North American Bumblebees website gives the range as Yukon east to Nova Scotia, south to Georgia, Michigan, Kansas, Montana, British Columbia (www.bumblebee.org). However, some of this distribution may not be current. For example, Grixti et al. (2009) consider it possibly extirpated in Illinois where it was collected in only the central region before 1940. Occurrence in Kansas should be verified.
